Lion's Point & Tiger Point

Lion’s Point:  is a popular vantage point located midway between Bhushi Dam and Aamby Valley in Lonavala, Maharashtra, It offers spectacular panoramic vistas of the adjacent hills and the valley below. The hill top is surrounded by cascading waterfalls, lush green valleys and majestic mountains and is a famous tourist spot in the city.

 

   Tiger point :  If you look at it in a close-up, it appears in a tiger-like shape. In which a tiger is trying to jump through the valley giving the place its name. Another scene is the waterfalls that naturally fall during the monsoon. They have sparkling clear water. The name comes due to its resemblance with the  appearance of a tiger that leaps. It offers stunning views of lush greenery, forests as well as waterfalls and lakes surrounding. Tiger’s Leap is also known as Waghdari. The name derives because it resembles the form of a tiger leaping. It is a stunning view of greenery, forests as well as waterfalls and lakes surrounding. Sunset and sunrise views from this viewpoint are stunning.

Lohagad Fort

Lohagad Fort :  At a distance of 11 km from Lonavala, 66 km from Pune & 114 km from Mumbai, the Lohagad Fort (Iron Fort) is a historical fort situated along the Sahyadri hills in the Lonavala region of Maharashtra. It is one of the best tourist places to visit in Lonavala and also one of the popular heritage in Maharashtra. 

   It is one of the most visited forts in Maharashtra as part of Lonavala tour packages. The fort was built by Guru Govind Singh in 1564 CE to serve as a prison. Shivaji Maharaj captured it in 1648 CE, but he was forced to surrender it to the Mughals in 1665 CE by the Treaty of Purandar. Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the  fort in 1670 CE and used it for keeping his treasury. Later in Peshwa’s time, Nana Phadnavis used this fort for living and built several structures in the fort such as a big tank and a step-well. Recently the fort has been declared as a protected monument by the government.

Lohagad makes an ideal trekking destination for trekkers from Pune and Mumbai because of its accessibility, ease of trek, and lush green surrounding Lohagad trek is very popular, especially during monsoons. Malavli is the base of the trek, which is around 7 km from Lohagad. It is a simple, very scenic,  and pleasant trek and the distance from Malavli and Lohagad can be covered in two hours.

Shree Narayani dham Temple

 Shree Narayani dham Temple :  At a distance of 2 km from Lonavala Railway Station, Sri Narayani Dham is a religious place located in Dhankawadi area of Lonavala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Narayani and is one of the famous places of sightseeing in Lonavala. The temple was constructed in 2002 and is a beautiful white marble structure. The main deity of the temple is Ma Narayani and on either side of the main shrine are  shrines dedicated to Ganapathi, Hanuman and other Hindu deities. The deities are beautifully decorated with glittering jeweleries. The entrance is a 4 storeyed  structure, there are fountains lined up on the pathway from entrance to temple. 

   It is flocked by many locals as well as tourists everyday owing to its famous path Dadi Mangal and bhajans that fill the air with spirituality. The temple celebrates  Ganesh Chathurdi, Janmashtami, and Diwali festivals with much enthusiasm. The temple has a Hall sufficient enough to host more than 10,000 devotees. It also has a  odging facility with 5 bedrooms with attached toilets so that the devotees coming from long distance can stay and take rest. There is a Goshala where visitors can feed the cows.
